About Ronald Reagan

Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) worked as a regional sportcaster before moving to Los Angeles and finding fame as an actor. After serving in World War II (being limited to domestic service due to his poor eyesight), he became active in politics by being elected to the presidency of the Screen Actors Guild. Initially a Democrat, he switched to the Republican Party in the 1950s and was elected governor of California in 1966. After an unsuccessful run at the presidency of the United States in 1976, he won the office in 1980 and a second term in 1984, where his legacy was defined by fighting against global communism and economy-stimulating policies at home that resulted in massive tax breaks for the wealthy.
