Breaking through the noise with the unmistakable floating green head as his persona, Boston-based producer ROBY takes inspiration from a variety of electronic music genres to craft a sound that is truly his own; laying down vocals that live within a boundless realm, granular, lush atmospheres supported by the textures of real-world sounds, and a dynamic blend of deep reese basses and 808s that lay on top of drums that straddle the line between organic and synthesized.
This all starts in 2013, where he began his journey to create music, he spent hours tinkering with loops in an online DAW. But he was more intrigued by video editing and graphic design. However the exposure to electronic music all over the internet throughout that time resonated with him so deeply that it eventually set him in an entirely new direction.
In 2020, he began releasing music consistently when he had more time on his computer. It was a refuge from the mundane. By July, he had self-released the 6-track EP, Bloom, which showcased dark, shimmering electronica with influences from dubstep, halftime bass, and wave. It paved a way forward for his musical project.
2021 was a strong and developmental year for ROBY, with an incredibly strong start with accolades from deadmau5, who called his music “soundtrack fire.” He later joined the ranks of The Tabula Rasa Record Company, an underground record label that is home to friends and collaborators such as RamonPang, Kelbin, Kinoteki, and many others.
ROBY continues to push the limits of his sound, experimenting with new pop-influenced, vocal-driven music. The first release with this new vision, a collaboration with JUKO, was featured on Spotify’s Fresh Finds and Fresh Finds Pop playlists. It’s clear that ROBY has found his golden voice, truly seeing what the world of ROBY is, and he continues to build and thrive in his own sonic realm.
