Roberto Carlos Lange is a Brooklyn-based musician whose primary moniker is Helado Negro. Born and raised in South Florida to Ecuadorian immigrants, he was influenced early on by the musical styles of Miami bass and experimental dance music to Latin American folk songs. He studied Computer Art and Animation at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. He initially made instrumental, sample-based soundscapes under a variety of names, including La Muerte Blanca, Boom & Birds, and Epstein. He was also a member of the group Savath y Savalas, alongside musicians Guillermo Scott Herren (better known as Prefuse 73) and Eva Puyuelo Muns. He has also released two albums, Music for Memory (2009) and Plural People (2015), under his full name Roberto Carlos Lange.
Previously signed to Asthmatic Kitty Records, Lange’s Helado Negro project is currently signed to RVNG Intl. and released his sixth studio album This Is How You Smile in March 2019 to critical acclaim.
