About RMR

Very little is known about RMR (pronounced “rumor”), the ski-mask wearing crooner. What is known, according to an interview he gave with Rolling Stone, is that he is 26-27, born in 1996 in Ghana, and grew up between the Buckhead district of Atlanta and Inglewood, Los Angeles. He has since moved back to Minnesota, to where he originally grew up as a child.

RMR appears to deliberately eschew genre classification, listing influences ranging from country and rock artists such as Rascal Flatts, John Mayer and Blink-182 to iconic rappers such as Kanye West, Jay-Z and Drake.

According to RMR, the ski mask goes beyond just an aesthetic choice. He wishes to remain anonymous as long as he can. In an April 2020 interview with Variety he expanded on this, claiming:

I want people to listen with their ears, not their eyes.

RMR exploded onto the scene in late February 2020 with his debut track “RASCAL,” a cover of Rascal Flatts' “Bless the Broken Road.” The altered lyrics and accompanying music video subvert the country classic, with all the gun-toting, designer flexing, and police-aggression one might expect from a modern trap banger.

Based on the success of “RASCAL,” in April 2020, RMR inked a deal with Warner Records and CMNTY RCRDS and promptly released a follow-up record: “DEALER.” The track would end up seeing a similar success to “RASCAL,” to which the song ended up getting an official remix with Future and Lil Baby.

On June 12, 2020, RMR released his debut major-label EP DRUG DEALING IS A LOST ART, to which it also featured Westside Gunn. Four days later, the EP re-released with the addition of the long-awaited remix to RMR’s breakout single “RASCAL,” which featured Young Thug.

Since the release of DRUG DEALING IS A LOST ART, RMR kept silent with his future releases, up until November 24, 2020, with the release of his second EP, 4th Qtr Medley, consisting of three reworked tracks of already existing songs. Unlike DRUG DEALING IS A LOST ART, the EP was only exclusive to YouTube and SoundCloud and is the first to not be released under Warner or CMNTY.

Entering into 2021, RMR released “Her Honeymoon,” beginning the rollout for his upcoming debut album, which was originally going to be named Hotel, however since then plans have changed. Then in May 2021, RMR joined forces with Tyla Yaweh on the track “Vibes.” This would serve as RMR’s final major release under Warner and CMNTY, as the following year, he would leave the label.

Since then, RMR has been notoriously quiet with his music, however he has since done features for other artists, such as Billy Strings, Kid Ink, Icewear Veezo, and more, as well as being active through his social media accounts. In 2022, RMR would start up his own label, RMRHasIt, LLC, a division of AWAL. After two years of unreleased music, on March 3, 2023, RMR released “Crazy” with producer Ryan Lewis, confirming that RMR’s still dropping music. Having not done an actual face reveal since the start of his music career, “Rings On Saturn,” released on November 10, 2023, would be the start of a major jump to his career, as the music video released three months later would see the face of the ski mask wearing crooner.

Although RMR’s slowly releasing music throughout the months, RMR is finally gearing up to release his debut studio album, Hurry Up and Wait in 2024.
