Richard Barnfield (1574-1620) was an English Renaissance poet. He published three books in his lifetime: The Affectionate Shepherd (1594), Cynthia (1595), and The Encomion of Lady Pecunia (1598). He was influenced strongly by Sir Philip Sidney’s 1591 sonnet sequence Astrophel and Stella. He is known for the homoerotic addresses of his love poems. In 1599, at least two of his sonnets were published in The Passionate Pilgrim and attributed to Shakespeare.
