About Ricardo Confessori

Ricardo Confessori (São Paulo, January 25, 1969) is a Brazilian musician and music producer.

Confessori is a former member and former drummer of the band Shaman (BRA) and current member of Massacration, serving as drummer. He is a former member of Angra, in addition to having worked with the group Korzus.

He began his musical life studying classical piano for four years, but after listening to the sounds of Rush, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, etc., Ricardo decided on drums at the age of 13.

His first job as a professional musician was in the band Garcia & Garcia. He recorded the album Mr. Fire in 1990.

After the dissolution of the band, he joined the group Korzus in 1992, where he stayed for a year and a half. During this period he performed a series of shows and ended up leaving the group due to disagreements with the record company.

Immediately after he left, in 1993, he received an invitation to take over as Angra’s drummer, after recording Angels Cry, an album in which Alex Holzwarth was on drums.

At Angra, Ricardo recorded Holy Land, in 1996, a concept album with Brazilian rhythms. Still with Angra, the drummer recorded the album Fireworks, in 1998, which yielded the singles “Rainy Nights” and “Lisbon”, the live Holy Live (1997), the album Freedom Call (1996) and the single “Evil Warning” (1994).

In 2000, three musicians left Angra, among them Ricardo. The musicians form the band Shaman, with other instrumentalists, and after two years, they release the album Ritual, distributed in 15 more countries and followed by a live CD/DVD entitled RituAlive (2003). Reason, the band’s second album, was released in 2005 and the tour went through all regions of Brazil and several countries in Latin America.

Ricardo participates in several important workshops in Brazil and abroad and is endorsed by Zildjian cymbals, Vic Firth drumsticks, Yamaha drumheads and drums and Bauer Design Personalized Stickers for bass drum and drums.

In 2009, on his return to Angra, he participated in a tour with the band Sepultura.

On May 5, 2014, the band’s press office announces that drummer Ricardo Confessori leaves the group, the reason being that he wants to venture into other projects. He would continue with the band until the end of the Angels Cry 20th Anniversary Tour.

In 2016, he performs shows in Brazil, presenting material from the bands he has been in, accompanied by musicians Fabio Carito (bass, Warrel Dane, ex-Shadowside), Thiago Oliveira (guitar, Warrel Dane, Seventh Seal), Affonso Jr (guitar, Revenge, Hardwood) and Alax Willian (vocals, Hardwood). In the same year, he participates and produces the album “Hypnosis” by the Minas Gerais band Silent Cry.

In 2017, he participates in the Metal MILF World Tour with the band Massacration.

In 2019, he accompanied bassist Billy Sheehan on his tour of Brazil.

He currently toured with the Shaman Reunion tour, thus announcing the return of the original members to the band. After the death of vocalist Andre Matos on June 8, 2019, the band moved on with new vocalist Alirio Netto, releasing the album Rescue in 2022.

He caused the end of the band Shaman, after homophobic comments on his Instagram and for his political positions regarding the terrorist attacks on the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasília caused by supporters of the former president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro, showing full support for these attacks, also claiming to be a “roots rocker” and criticizing “bluepill” musicians who don’t have a “real alpha” mindset in rock.
