Back in 1995, South African veteran singer, Winnie Khumalo gave birth to her second child, Rethabile Khumalo, who was fathered by Muso Seabee. Little did she know that her ‘bundle of joy’ (whose name loosely translates to ‘We are happy!’) would end up following in her footsteps. Fast forward to 2008, Rethabile was featured in the music video of her mom’s smash hit, Live My Life.
Throughout the years, she has worked incredibly hard at her craft. By 2012, she had already been featured in the albums of Kwela Tebza and multi-award winning hip-hop act, Deep Level. Around the same time, Rethabile’s soulful rendition of Adele’s Hometown Glory earned her a golden ticket to compete at the “Hell Week” of South Africa’s biggest reality competition, Idols SA. It was her second attempt at winning over the show’s judges. Even though she did not make it far in the competition, her efforts did not go unnoticed.
A couple of years after her stint on Idols SA, the Soweto-born starlet released a single called, “Glad To Be Yours” after she was signed to Africa Lit Records, a record label established by Oskido’s son, Bass. Due to reasons unknown to the general public, her arrangement there did not last.
Her beautiful voice got a stamp of approval from DJ Tira following her appearance on Idols SA and several performances ever since the competition, and sometime in 2018, her spark got her signed with the music mogul’s label Afrotainment. On 14 Sept. 2018, she released Nomathemba to positive reception, and on Jan. 15, 2019, the music video of the love record came out.
Rethabile is very fond of the guitar and has a close relationship with her mom.
