About Regina Richards

More commonly known as simply “Regina”, this New York native is best known for her 1986 smash “Baby Love”. This singer-songwriter actually got her start much earlier, providing lead vocals, songwriting duties, and rhythm guitar for the new wave rock group Regina Richards & Red Hot. The band played now legendary music venues, like CBGB and Max’s Kansas City during their time together and toured with the likes of up and coming rock group U2. All of this lead to the band cutting an album for A&M in the early part of the decade, but they disbanded by 1982. After a brief break from the industry, Regina was interested in selling songs to other acts; one of these songs was her big hit. Her career was put back on track when she was signed by Atlantic Records after they heard her demo tape. “Baby Love” went on to top the dance chart and became a top 10 hit in the US, and charted in countries all around the world. Regina is also best known for appearing in a popular PSA with McGruff the Crime Dog in 1987. She released several singles through the rest of the ‘80s, and eventually left the business to start a family.
