Shane Redway was an upcoming rapper from Toronto who tragically passed away at age 26 in a car accident that occured on August 1st, 2015. Following his death, many well known local Toronto artists paid their respects on social media, including Drake and PartyNextDoor.
While Redway may have remained underground and never really broke into mainstream, he was locally well-known and respected in his hometown of Toronto. He broke into the music landscape of Toronto with the release of his single TDotWire Freak in 2007, and followed up with his Live Free mixtape that he released in 2013. Redway released his debut EP Years Ahead in September 2014, which was produced solely by Missisauga native Wondagurl. While Redway’s death gave him signifant media coverage and exposure, it’s unfortunate that it took his death to give him the respect and attention that he deserved as an artist.
