Recoil is the solo project of former Depeche Mode member, Alan Charles Wilder.
Recoil debuted in 1986 with an instrumental EP, “1+2”. The EP was released after Daniel Miller found Wilders demos and saw how Alan can change Depeche Modes sound into something darker, something entirely new.
After that Wilder released another instrumental EP titled “Hydrology” in 1988.
The big change came with “Bloodline”. Alan decided to invite singers and songwriters to complete the (much lighter sounding album) in 1992.
(After “Bloodline” he never returned to only releasing instrumentals.)
In 1995 he quit Depeche Mode, but two years later he came out with the album “Unsound Methods”.
After that came “Liquid” in 2000, and 7 years later he released the last album to date “subHuman”.
The last release of Recoil is “Selected”, which is a compilation album of Alans favourite songs that he made within Recoil.
