Rayna Foss (born April 26, 1970 in Georgia, USA) is an American bassist best known as a founding member of American nü metal band Coal Chamber.
Rayna initially started her career as a dance instructor in California and had never intended on being a bassist. At a friend’s party she attended, she noticed a bass guitar in a closet and asked the friend if she could try it. After the party, the friend gave her the bass.
Six months later, in the summer of 1994, Dez Fafara, John Thor, and Miguel Rascón were looking for a bassist for their band, named Coal at the time. Rayna was recommended to Dez by his wife at the time as her and Rayna were co-workers. Rayna auditioned and was hired by the band, who started playing in July 1994.
Rayna would be credited for 3 of the band’s albums: Coal Chamber (1997), Chamber Music (1999), and Dark Days (2002). Rayna would leave in 1999 due to pregnancy, returned in 2000, and left for good in 2002 after finding Christ and having a falling out with Dez.
On January 5th, 2021, it was reported that Rayna had gone missing as of September 7th, 2020 in New Orleans. Rayna’s daughter, Kayla, has since made an Instagram post denying the rumor of her mother’s disappearance, saying she’s been in regular contact with her mother and has contacted the New Orleans Police Department.
