Rare Candy is an upbeat acoustic solo project started in 2017 by Alex Wieringa, bassist of Illinoisian pop punk band Belmont, who describes the music he writes as “twangy tunes” and “catchy as hell.” The band name is taken from the Pokémon item Rare Candy, which raises the level of a Pokémon by 1 when used.
Thus far, Rare Candy’s discography consists of an EP named Cream Soda, two splits—one with Little Crown and one with lifehold.—as well as an EP released on April 20, 2019, titled Turnip Head, the first single from which was released in September, 2018. On December 17, 2019, he released a brand new single titled “Want You to Know.”
