About Rane

Trinidad and Tobago native, Sherane Blackman is a singer and songwriter. She was raised in Maloney, East Trinidad and later took up residence in the United States where she dedicatedly continues her life’s pursuits. Extremely passionate and focused, Sherane has ambitiously attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies, all the while maintaining her keen appreciation for music of various genres. Admittedly though, the Soca music genre is her most enjoyed- something she coins, “an escape from life’s realities, particularly when they prove challenging.” As an artist, ‘Rane’ has wholeheartedly entered the Soca music industry, in 2018 releasing a song called, ‘Ms. Whiner’, before proceeding to deliver other self-written songs like ‘Handle It’ in2019, followed by ‘Ay Papi‘ and ‘Bam Bam’ in 2020. One year later, the ambitious singer went on to release ‘My Behavior’.Most of her compositions were written between 2014 and 2015, a symbolic period in the artist’s self-discovery. She explains that in 2014she had the privilege of working alongside the late, Devon Matthews on his single, ‘No Kill Joy,’ and it was during that time that she pinpointed her passion and ability in the area of songwriting. Still, she timidly approached the newfound skill, purchasing a single notebook and quietly penning songs that would not be released until some five years later. Rane knew from a very young age that music would be a major part of her life. At the age of eight, while still at home in Trinidad, she sang in her primary school choir. She even entered her primary school’s calypso competition and gained valuable empowerment as she grew also participating in dance and karate. Now, years later, Sherane Blackman has come full circle, having built a self-assured character and a positive mindset toward the business of music. Even with her accreditation in the field of Legal Studies, paired with her ambition to enter the field of entertainment law, Blackman prides herself on gaining insight of the industry of which she’s apart, from her peers and others who’ve been a part of the business over many years. Motivated by her desire to one day become a household name, the young singer whose inspiration, she says, comes from fellow artists, Destra Garcia, Nadia Batson, Fay-Ann Lyons and Terri Lyons, plans to maintain presence and consistent delivery of feel-good music. Toward the end of 2021, Rane released a single called, ‘Dutty’, a contribution for what is traditionally the 2022 Carnival season in Trinidad and Tobago.
