Puscifer is a band of Maynard James Keenan, who is most known for his work with the bands Tool and A Perfect Circle. Keenan used to be the only permanent member, he considers the project to be his “creative subconscious.”

Keenan describes Puscifer as “simply a playground for the various voices in my head, […] a space with no clear or discernible goals, […] where my Id, Ego, and Anima all come together to exchange cookie recipes.”
Puscifer’s original name was Umlaut, “a premiere improvisational hardcore band.” Although the band name has never been publicly explained, given the subject matter of some of the earlier lyrics, it can be assumed that it’S a composition of “Pussy” and “Lucifer”.
