Born and raised in Oakland, California, Arieh Berl grew up playing in Punk and Indie bands around the Bay Area. While writing for his band, it became clear his new songs were meant for a completely different project. He wasn’t writing punk or indie songs anymore, but a genre-bending mix of psychedelic rock, pop, R&B, 70’s, and chillwave. These sounds eventually manifested into the formation of Pink Skies in 2016. Heavily inspired by the outdoors, especially backpacking and surfing, Berl describes Pink Skies as Escapism Pop, noting his creations are “Pop songs shot through a laser and sent to the moon.” Though he had no intention of releasing his dusty, personal home recordings, the singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer decided to finish and release the project after a creative retreat in the Berkeley Hills.
Pink Skies released his debut EP, “Does It Really Matter?’ on July 13, 2018, including the release of ‘I Don’t Wanna See You Cry’ through French record label Kitsune, followed by ‘Portland' on September 28, 2018. The band’s kaleidoscopic live set has had Pink Skies share the stage with acts such as Day Wave, boy pablo, Viceroy, TV Girl, and more. In 2018 he co-produced 6LACK’s ‘Seasons’ (ft. Khalid), ‘Sorry,’ and ‘Been A While,’ alongside Glass Animals and Fwdslxsh, as well as playing guitar on BOSCO’s 2017 project b.
He is currently working on his debut album, due out 2019.
