About Peter Jefferies

Peter Jefferies is a New Zealand, Taranaki-based musician. During the beginning of the 1980’s, he formed the short-lived band Nocturnal Projections with his brother Graeme Jefferies. In 1983, their post-punk inclinations were further developed during the four releases of their next, more experimental musical endeavour, This Kind of Punishment.

After the disbanding of TKP, Peter Jefferies released five solo albums and one collaboration full-length, a few of which were purely instrumental, like 1998’s Substatic, and other with a more singer-songwriter feel, mostly lo-fi recordings with Peter and his piano or guitar, as heard on the classic The Last Great Challenge in a Dull World, released in 1990. His last record, Closed Circuit, came out in 2001. He has since retired from performing and focused mainly on teaching.
