About Pete Namlook

Pete Namlook was a very prolific electronic music producer from Germany, who made many albums in the ambient house and ambient techno genres on his own FAX Records label. He has also collaborated with lots of other artists in the electronic music scene, including Richie Hawtin (aka. Plastikman), Gaudi, and Uwe Schmidt (aka. Atom Heart).

When Namlook initially started FAX Records, it mainly outputted club-oriented singles, most of which were in the “hardtrance” style that was developing in Namlook’s hometown of Frankfurt at the time. However, after 1993, FAX Records devoted itself to ambient and downtempo releases, and switched from releasing vinyl singles to CD albums.

In some releases, like Air, Namlook uses traditional instruments alongside analog equipment to create deep ambient soundscapes. However, even when he uses purely electronic instruments, like in From Within, his collaborative project with Richie Hawtin, he can create otherworldly and ethereal experiences. Namlook released many albums and tracks from mid-October 1992, all the way to November 8th, 2012, when he died from a heart attack at the age of 51.
