Penny Ford is an accomplished vocalist who made her biggest splash on the 1990 international hip-hop/dance hit “The Power” by SNAP!. Originally Chaka Khan was supposed to perform the vocals, but sent longtime background vocalist Ford to perform in her place.
The success of “The Power” and subsequent hits with SNAP! like “Mary Had a Little Boy” and “Oops Up” raised Ford’s profile significantly. She signed a solo deal with Columbia Records and released the self-titled album Penny Ford in 1993, featuring a re-arranged pop-soul cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Daydreaming.”
That was not her debut though. Prior to that, she had a record deal with Gap Band-associated imprint Total Experience Records where she released the self-titled album Pennye in 1984 featuring the single “Change Your Wicked Ways”.
Penny Ford's first album Pennye released on Sun Jan 01 1984.
