As the CEO of Australian hip hop’s biggest label, a part of two hip hop groups as well as being a solo rapper and one of the biggest bodies behind the success of modern day Aussie hip hop, Pegz is of Australia’s most underrecognised musical acts.
Pegz started his career as a rapper in the 1990’s and scored a job at Obese Records, a label based in Melbourne which specialised in Australian hip hop. He released his self titled EP “Pegasus” in 2001.
He continued on to release three full-length studio albums, with two year gaps in between. Meanwhile, numerous Australian hip hop artists started picking up high commercial success levels. Most of these artists were signed to Obese.
He continued his consistency of releasing album every two years by releasing “The Great Divide” under the name of Gully Platoon, a group which consisted of Pegz, Dialectrix and Joe New.
He released his next album “Drama” in 2011, two years after the Gully Platoon album.
In 2016, Obese Records closed down officially.
At this stage, Pegz doesn’t appear to be making anything new, but never say never.
