About Pallbearer

Pallbearer is an American doom metal band formed in 2008 in Little Rock, Arkansas by Brett Campbell and Jospeh D. Rowland. The two had worked together in an experimental project by the name of Sports and met while attending the University of Central Arkansas. Devin Holt would be brought on as second guitarist with David Dobbs as drummer. Dobbs would leave the band in 2009 and be replaced by Zach Stine.

The band self-released a three song demo in 2010. They would be signed by Canadian independent label Profound Lore Records in 2011. A year later, they would release their debut album Sorrow and Extinction to critical acclaim and success being cited amongst the best albums of the year by music magazine Spin and NPR.

Stine left the band shortly after the release of Sorrow and was briefly replaced by Chuck Schaaf. Pallbearer’s lineup would be solidified with the addition of Mark Lierly after Schaaf’s departure. They released their second album Foundations of Burden in 2014; it received Best New Music status by Pitchfork and topped Decibel magazine’s Album of the Year list.

After the release of their third album Heartless, the band would be featured in an essay for The New York Times Magazine by cultural critic David Rees. He would describe the band as:

“… one of the most resonant emotional campaigns in American rock music.”

The band would release their fourth album Forgotten Days through Nuclear Blast, making it their first full-length release for the label.
