P$C, also known as Pimp Squad Click, is a pioneering hip-hop group originating from Bankhead, Atlanta, Georgia, that emerged on the southern rap scene in the early 2000s. Formed in 2001, the collective was initially composed of six members: Big Kuntry King, T.I., Young Dro, Mac Boney, C-Rod, and AK. The group became known for their gritty, street-smart sound, blending Southern hip hop with trap music, and their close ties to the Atlanta music scene.
Their journey began in 2002 when they dropped their self-released mixtape In da Streets, marking their first step into the spotlight. The project gained local recognition, establishing the group’s unique identity within the Southern rap community. In 2005, P$C released their highly anticipated debut studio album, 25 to Life, under Grand Hustle Records and Atlantic Records. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the album’s success was undeniable, reaching the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart. Its single “I’m a King,” featuring Lil Scrappy, gained traction and was even included in the soundtrack of the acclaimed film Hustle & Flow.
Though T.I. was the prominent figure of the collective, P$C made appearances on numerous tracks, including collaborations with other well-known artists such as Young Jeezy, CeeLo Green, and Lil Jon. As T.I. rose to prominence, P$C was instrumental in defining the sound of Grand Hustle Records and influencing the rise of Atlanta’s trap music scene.
However, internal tensions surfaced over time, particularly with AK, who voiced dissatisfaction with the direction of the group and its relationship with the label. Despite this, P$C’s legacy continued, with the group’s music still resonating in the streets. In 2017, P$C made a return with the release of the single “My Boi,” showcasing that, while their commercial success may have dwindled, their influence within the hip-hop community remained strong.
Through their mixtapes, In da Streets series, and their debut album, P$C solidified their place in the history of Southern rap, known for their raw, unfiltered take on life in the trap, their tight-knit bond, and their role in shaping the culture of modern hip-hop.
