About Owen Morris

Owen Dylan Morris, born 1968, Caernarfon (North Wales) is a Welsh record producer and sound engineer. Who gained notoriety for his work with bands such as; Oasis, Ash, The View, The Fratellis, Loso and The Verve.

His career started at a very young age, when he got his first job as a sound engineer at Spaceward Studio in Cambridge, England when he was only 16. He continued as a sound engineer until 1994, when he mixed and mastered Oasis' critically acclaimed debut album, Definitely Maybe. He was heavily praised by many, including the band themselves, for the mix. Noel Gallagher fondly recalls listening to Morris' mix of ‘Slide Away’ and simply saying; “F**king that’s it! That’s it! Who is he?”. He went on to work with Oasis' on their follow-up; ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’(Morris can be seen on the cover holding the master tape over his face) which was received very well and is considered one of the best albums in British music history. (Hits include: Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back In Anger, Some Might Say, Champagne Supernova and Roll With It.) He finally worked on their third album, ‘Be Here Now’, however, his mix was criticised by Noel Gallagher and was later redone, but the album was not received as well as its predecessor. Many say this is due to the production of the album, saying that it was ‘over-produced’. This is the final time he would work with the band on a studio album.

Other notable albums include; ‘Northern Soul’ by The Verve, which was also critically acclaimed and was very commercially successful.

In 2013, Morris begun the process of remastering the first three Oasis' albums with Ian Cooper, for their 20th anniversary release. These remasters were met with acclaim, particular the remastering of ‘Be Here Now’, with songs such as ‘
Morris now works with small bands, including Miracle Glass Company and in Feb. 2015 produced their debut album.
