Jaylan Tucker (born July 19, 1998), professionally known as Opm Babi, is an American creative director, record producer, A&R, and label owner from Columbia, South Carolina. He is best known for his work with American recording artist Playboi Carti.
Opm Babi began his career in the entertainment industry at the age of six, after his mother made the pivotal decision to relocate their family from Atlanta to Los Angeles to support his acting aspirations. He went on to appear in a variety of national commercials, films, television shows, and print campaigns.
By 2015, Opm Babi was spending most of his time in Los Angeles with longtime friend John Ross, who introduced him to Carti and American fashion personality Ian Connor. Around the same time, he became associated with the collective Sake World Records, which was founded in February 2016 by D Savage, John Ross, Kevin Moon, Yung Weej, and Lil BossTae, among others. These formative experiences laid the foundation for his deeper involvement in music and creative direction.
In 2019, Opm Babi and Carti co-founded Opium, a record label and creative agency based in Atlanta, Georgia. He played a central role in shaping the label’s early identity and direction, notably helping to sign Atlanta recording artist Destroy Lonely in late 2020.
On April 3, 2020, Opm Babi’s loyalty was put to the test when he and Carti were arrested by the Atlanta Police Department for the illegal possession of firearms and narcotics in an unregistered vehicle. He ultimately took responsibility for all weapons charges and the majority of drug charges. He faced a possible 50-year sentence but was instead given six months.
Following his release, Opm Babi continued to contribute to both the creative and musical direction of Opium’s output. He co-produced “F33l Lik3 Dyin'” on Carti’s 2020 album Whole Lotta Red and co-wrote Kid Cudi’s verse on “M3tamorphosis.” He has also directed several music videos, including Ken Carson’s “MDMA.”
