About Ooops

Bruce Franks, Jr. (born September 22, 1986) is an American activist, MC, battle rapper, and former politician from St. Louis, Missouri. Performing under the stage name Ooops since 2004, Franks has competed in battle rap since 2012, where he infuses his bars for his opponents with real-life stories about his childhood trauma of losing close friends and family members while growing up in an impoverished area of St. Louis.

Since 2014, Franks has been an outspoken supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement and a community activist, leading citywide protests in his hometown of St. Louis and Phoenix, Arizona, where he later relocated to in 2019. In 2016, Franks was elected as a state representative in the Missouri House of Representatives for the 78th District of Missouri, where he also served as the Chairman of the Subcommittee of Police/Community Relations. He held these positions until 2019, when he officially resigned, citing negative effects on his mental health. His time spent navigating state politics and performing on stage in battle rap, while dealing with his mental health struggles, was analyzed in the 2019 documentary St. Louis Superman. The film premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, and was later nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject) at the 92nd Academy Awards.
