As a leader of the new school of rappers in Kenya, Octopizzo has been an inspiration to a lot of people both on and off the mic. His rags to riches story and involvement in youth and refugee empowerment are among the endeavours that make the youth identify with him even more.
His main aim when he began his career was to give a better impression of his hood (Kibera) in the eyes of outsiders, to give the residents a reason to be proud of Kibera and to ‘bring in a better lyrical output’.
‘Octo’ majorly conveys his raps in Sheng, an East African urban slang made up of Swahili, English and a mixture other local languages. Sheng is the most popular language used by Nairobian youth. He is also a versatile artist who initially made boom bap, kapuka and melodic rap before diverting into Shrap (Sheng trap) later on in his career. This has proven effective in stamping his influence within the region, especially among the growing numbers of young trap fans.
With his original sense of style and unapologetic swagger, he continues to rise to new heights in the East African rap arena.
