About Noname

Born Fatimah Warner on September 18, 1991, Noname is an American rapper from the historic district Bronzeville in Chicago.

In an interview with The Fader she explained the reasoning behind her name:

I try to exist without binding myself to labels. I’m not really into labels at all, even the way I dress; I usually don’t wear anything with a name brand. For me, not having a name expands my creativity. I’m able to do anything. Noname could potentially be a nurse, Noname could be a screenwriter. I’m not limited to any one category of art or other existence, on a more existential level.

She first saw success as a slam poet, placing 3rd in 2010 in the Louder Than a Bomb competition.

She caught wider attention with a guest verse on Chance the Rapper’s “Lost” from his breakout mixtape Acid Rap. She has also made a handful of features with fellow Chicagoans, on Mick Jenkin’s “Comfortable”, Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment’s “Warm Enough” and again with Chance the Rapper on “Israel (Sparring) and “Finish Line/Drown.”

On July 31, 2016, Noname released her debut mixtape, Telefone, which was first announced as early as 2013 and was delayed numerous times.

On September 14, 2018, she released her debut studio album Room 25.

In May 2019, she announced her next project, Factory Baby, on Twitter.
