Narelle Kheng, born as Jin Song Yi (金颂旖) on September 23rd, 1993, is one of the female lead vocalists and the bass guitarist of Singapore’s top local band The Sam Willows which debuted in 2012. She is also the younger sister of Benjamin Kheng who is also part of The Sam Willows and is also the band’s founder.
Before The Sam Willows, she had been a part of the nation’s youth swim team along with her brother and trained at the age of 6 years old. Her education includes Methodist Girl’s School, Singapore, Anglo-Chinese Junior College, and Singapore Sports School. She also majored in Communication Studies at Nanyang Technological University.
At the age of 9, her mother passed away from cancer. After her death, they were constantly moving around due to lack of money for rent. Although it is not known how much her mother’s death affected her, her brother has been very open about it, often talking about it at youth inspirational speech events.
Narelle also had small acting roles as cameos in 「Zero Calling」,「Against The Tide」,and ,「Do It Yourself」on Channel 5.
In 2016, she released the MV and song for her single “Some They Lie”, her first solo release.
She is signed to Sony Music Singapore and Warner Bros. Music with The Sam Willows, but is signed to Fly Entertainment as a solo artist and would continue to slowly release music apart from The Sam Willows.
