Mukundi Ramaite, born 12 November 2002 in Louis Trichardt, a township in Limpopo, South Africa, is a multi-instrumentalist musician, singer and the founder of Salungano Entertainment and Salungano Studios.

Mukundi told the Limpopo Mirror that music has been apart of the life for as long as she can remember. She was in choir for a significant portion of her life, from primary all the way to her final year of university.

Growing up, she never felt very good with words, instead she always felt as though she was more confident in expressing herself in a song or a poem, than speaking. She writes music to process and cope. When she turned 10 she left behind the piano her parents had hoped she would remain interested in, and instead she picked up the guitar.

It wasn’t until she turned 13 when she started writing music seriously. She wrote her first full song in Grade 8, “Flower Girls,” making it her first ever single. She released it under the name Lenkie, in 2019. During her late teenage years, she would regularly upload her remakes to Amapiano songs on her social media, and she later became the lead vocalist in a November 2023 USC University Chorus performance.

She released her debut single “The Lover’s Nest” on 10 March 2024 (under her new stage name), 2 months before she graduated from the University of Southern California, USA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She got her big break on September 2024, when she was featured on two songs, “Yes Sir” and “Andrenaline” from the album of one of the most prominent Amapiano producers, Mas Musiq.

She shared why she writes music, stating:

Music is just in my soul. I believe God makes us all with different qualities in order to glorify different aspect of Him. By His Grace I will find myself in the choir in heaven. Music is everywhere in all things. What I can add is that as someone who struggled, and sometimes still struggles, to communicate verbally, music says so much without uttering a single syllable. Just by listening to how a guitar is played, how a trumpet isn’t played, you learn so much about yourself and others. The best part is, everyone understands it because music is the sound of the human soul. We all know the sound of loneliness, of anger, of love, of betrayal. With music, all of that can be communicated even without a word. I wanted to be a part of that as soon as I was conscious enough to start creating.
