Mt. Westmore is a rap supergroup consisting of four acclaimed west-coast rappers Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, E-40 and Too $hort. The name is a play on Mt. Rushmore, a famous monument in South Dakota featuring four former US presidents.
The project was announced in December 2020. In March, Too $hort told Stereogum the group had recorded 50 songs and rapper/producer Dr. Dre is involved. In a Rolling Stone interview Snoop Dogg revealed that Eminem was also featured on a track called ‘From Detroit to the LBC’, but the song was later released as a Snoop/Em collab and only name drops Mount Westmore in the first verse.
The group made their first live appearance in April 2021 and their first single “Big Subwoofer” dropped in October. Their first album Bad MFs was released on June 7th, 2022 exclusively on the Blockchain by Death Row Records and Gala Music as an NFT:
We released an album, NFT, you know, for the NFT space. But trust me, all platforms will get the album, plus more … We just wanted to try the NFT space out. It wasn’t for no money, we all got money. It wasn’t about that. It’s a new world, you gotta turn with the times before the times turn on you.
In October 2022, Mount Westmore announced a second album Snoop, Cube, 40, Short would be released in a more standard fashion – not just as an NFT.
