Success is what happens when preparation and opportunity meet and Los Angeles rapper MoThoro has embodied just that.
The 21 year old L.A. native, Morris Taylor, has music and artistry in his blood. Growing up he watched his father, known as “Real Thorough,” write and perform his own music, and it instantly sparked a flame that would soon be passed on to the next generation. His father’s influence was so strong, he ended up passing the torch by giving the young rapper his name: “Mothoro”.
After taking interest in producing, writing and performing in elementary school, Mothoro’s skill set grew expeditiously so much so that by the time he was in high school one of his songs made it to Worldstar as “Youth Talent of the Week.” With the gleam of motivation and passion in his eyes, he teamed up with his childhood friend, Rasul Shabazz, and formed a group called MnR. The duo became unstoppable with their innovation and dedication. MoThoro credits both their chemistry and friendship with the development of his skills as both a rapper and producer.
His ability to create beats for himself instilled a sense of independence and self-sufficiency, giving him full creative freedom to explore his own sound. That freedom was pivotal in his growth and resulted in a creative treasure trove: his signature solo ThoroLyfe album trilogy.
“ThoroLyfe: Graduation” is the third and final instillation in the trilogy, tying all three projects together that expertly deal with pivotal topics facing the current generation such as depression, spirituality, college life and more. It’s his most polished work yet, and with dedication that’s undeniable and skills to match, MoThoro is here to show that graduating is just the beginning of his journey.
