Morton Feldman (1926-1987) was heavily influenced by the serial and aleatory music that was in vogue during his life, but he was also influenced by his friendships with abstract painters such as Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, and Robert Rauschenberg. Among his most famous works is Rothko Chapel, a piece written for his friend who had committed suicide and for the Houston chapel decorated with Rothko’s art.
