Monica “Mimi” Doby is best known as an original member of 90’s R&B girl group Brownstone. Though she had a standout solos on the group’s hit single “Grapevyne,” she was often relegated to being a support for the other two vocalists.
Doby left the group after the success of their 1994 debut From The Bottom Up. Though it was initially reported to the public that Doby left the group for health reasons, she later admitted that she left due to friction within the group.
Anachronistically, even after being replaced in the group with Kina Cosper, Brownstone released “Party Over Here” primarily featuring Monica Doby’s lead vocals as part of the Trippin' soundtrack in 1999.
