Mokyo is a South Korean producer and singer. He began his career in the K-hip-hop scene as a producer in 2019 under the name Thurxday but changed it to Mokyo to commemorate his Japanese grandfather (since ‘Mokyo’ and ‘Tokyo’ sound similar.)
He signed to H1GHR Music in the same year where he continued producing for label-mate pH-1, whom he already had been producing for earlier. Mokyo is the creative mind behind many of his breakout songs such as “Homebody” and “Malibu.”. His first mini-album, [hold] was released on June 19th, 2019 featuring the popular song “I’m an independant man”.
Sonically, Mokyo’s music features distinct R&B influences and lyrically deals with issues such as rehabilitation and loneliness. He has cited that a major inspiration for his music as his late mother, and in various songs has detailed his intense familial relationships (most popularly, “Daddy.”)
In 2020, Mokyo decided not to renew his contract with H1GHR Music and instead signed to fellow Korean artist Dean’s label, you.will.knovv, under whom he released his first-full length album accent fried featuring collaborations from both former and current label-mates.
