Milton Babbitt (1916-2011) was a highly influential composer and teacher. A native of Philadelphia, he intended to study mathematics but became inspired by serial music. He would become famous for composing for both traditional instruments and electronic ones, but also become infamous for his essay “Who Cares if You Listen?”
