In 2010, Mike Tompa graduated from OIART (Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology) and soon moved to the UK to intern under John Mitchell, Ben Humphreys, and James Billinge at Outhouse Studios (Arcitects, Heights, Your Demise, Lower Than Atlantis, Anavae, Enter Shakari). The internship quickly turned into a working position allowing Mike to produce and engineer alongside Mitchell, Humphreys & Billinge. During his time at Outhouse Studios, Mike worked on projects ranging from independent releases to bands on Universal/Island Records, Epic/Sony Records and Century Media. He was also given the opportunity to work at Red Bull Studios and tour the UK with various bands he had worked with. Upon his return to Canada, Mike became the manager and head engineer at Merriam Productions in Oakville before transitioning to working freelance out of a production suite in Toronto.
Mike Tompa has walked in all avenues of the music scene. Starting young as a classically trained violinist, his focus soon turned to the double bass. From a young age, Mike has been a member of multiple youth orchestras, fiddle groups, swing and jazz bands. He is currently a member of multiple bands (First Ghost, Deadwinter, Pine Pitch, etc) and has toured North American as vocalist, guitar and keys player. Mike keeps his classical training alive as a session string musician. His latest performance venture has lead him to becoming a staple on stage with Canadian band Silverstein. He had the pleasure of touring not only North America, but Europe, as well as playing with them in their livestream performances. His vast experience in so many genres of music allows Mike to bring a well rounded and multifaceted view to each session he is on, both as a musician, writer and as a producer.
