About Mike Shabb

Mike Shabb, real name Malcolm Blemir (b. February 3, 1998), is a Montrealer recording artist, songwriter and record producer hailing from Magog, Québec.

Shabb began releasing music onto his SoundCloud account as early as 2014, releasing a handful of singles in the lead up to his first mixtape Sewaside which was uploaded to SoundCloud on April 13, 2016. His next two projects would arrive in 2018 with his Northwave mixtape on March 2, and an EP titled Newave on November 30.

That same month saw the release of his breakout hit “Big Bag”, produced by and co-credited to VNCE Carter of Dead Obies. The song has since garnered over a million streams and would appear on Shabb’s next mixtape GLOOM, released in May 2019.

Mike Shabb also lent his production talents to close friend and frequent collaborator Jeune Loup in 2019, being the sole producer on his RX and Rx Archives projects.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Shabb returned with his next full-length project Life is Short. In its description on Bandcamp, he explains how working with producers VNCE Carter and Danny Ill led him to venture into new territory:

The union behind these two creative brains pushed Shabb outside his comfort zone and brought forth an album that showcases his talent as both a singer and a rapper with many flows. For the first time, Mike Shabb performs over synthwave/80s-flavoured beats as well as uptempo tracks.

He remained productive in 2021, releasing a slew of singles onto SoundCloud and YouTube and another project titled Quarantine Flow.

2022 would prove itself to be a heavily fruitful year for his career: it saw the release of his SEWASIDE II and BOKLEEN WORLD mixtapes on March 3 and November 30 of that year, respectively. Both projects were written, recorded, mixed, and produced by Shabb himself, with the exception of select instrumental contributions from Nicholas Craven, GRiMM Doza, and Sammy Haig.
Shabb also landed himself a notable production placement in October 2022 on Westside Gunn’s “Switches on Everything”, which also features Run the Jewels and Stove God Cooks.

He is expected to release a new solo project in 2023 as well as his collaborative mixtape with Nicholas Craven. The first single from the latter project is set to arrive in February 2023, as revealed by the duo on Instagram:
