Miguel Migs (real name Michael Steward, also known by the pseudonym Petalpusher) he’s a prominent deep house DJ and producer based in San Francisco, California. He’s the founder of Salted Music an independent electronic dance label. He cites classic rock, blues, funk, soul and reggae as a major influence in his music. As a teenager, Miguel wrote songs, composed melodies, played a range of instruments guitar, bass, percussion and keyboard in reggae bands. He got his start in the 90’s underground deep house scene experimenting with electronic dance music.

In 2002, Miguel released his debut album, Colorful You under Astralwerks imprint. He’s remixed music for some of the biggest names in the industry Macy Gray, Lionel Richie and Britney Spears.

In 2004, he launched his record label Salted Music. A medium wherein he wanted to establish his own music operation with his own individual stamp – to express his creativity through instrumentation and vocalization. As he describes below,

“music I like to play as a DJ, those B-side dubs, that underground creative feel. I never set out for it to be a large record label, it’s something we do pretty much on a part-time basis for fun as a side project. but it’s also important to me to be able to keep pushing new sounds and new artists.”

In 2007, Miguel released his sophomore album, Those Things collaborated with Sadat X and Junior Reed the album was critically acclaimed receiving a nominated for Best Dance Album in the Independent Music Awards and his single, So Far was ranked Top 5 in the Billboard Dance chart and scored #5 on the iTunes dance chart. He also had features from disco starlet Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King, reggae legends Half-Pint and Freddie McGregor and regular collaborators Aya and Lisa Shaw. He has released several solo albums after: Outside the Skyline (2011) and Dim Division (2014).

Miguel stands at the forefront of electronic music’s soulful realm. Whether tackling his original productions or remixes, he achieves an organic-soulful sound by combining the best of both the electronic music world and live instrumentation.

He remains unfazed by the attention and critical and commercial success he has achieved over the years. He takes pride in the honor and adoration of the people that appreciate his high production values and let’s his music speak for itself.
