Singer songwriter Michael Cook was born in Southwest Ontario, Canada on the snowy New Year’s eve of 1978. Like most energized Canadian boys, Michael grew up eating and breathing hockey as his primary passion which he still enjoys today. Alongside his passion for hockey was music. Music was so in his bones that his parents say the first words out of his mouth were not words at all but rather a song.
Michael and his family moved to Indiana when he was thirteen, which eventually led him to Anderson University. It was here that his studies in Philosophy and the Bible proved to be his most rewarding. While at Anderson the art of songwriting took hold and as Michael says, “this is when the songs began to write themselves.” Like all great writers, Michaels songs grew out of his experiences with faith, friendship and love. Many of the songs grew out of actual experiences such as the crowd pleaser “The Old Man in New York”.
Michael’s wishes as a singer songwriter is to not only entertain but to challenge and encourage people to reflect upon their faith, and to see their lives as a response to God’s unconditional love. “It is through understanding God’s love, through Jesus,” Michael says, “that provides a freedom that cannot be offered by the quick fixes of the world.”
