About Michael Bishop (GWAR)

Currently Blothar The Berserker, lead singer of GWAR. Also was the first Beefcake The Mighty. Former member of Kepone/American Grizzly. Earned a Ph.D. in music from UVA.

Bishop’s Beefcake The Mighty was a soft-spoken brute with a hidden sophistication and occasional hedonistic tendencies. The character itself got its name from Bishop, whose stocky build earned him the nickname “Beefcake”. Bishop originally wanted to name his character “Squidman Shitsucker”, but the others insisted he stick with Beefcake.

Bishop’s Blothar The Berserker (spelling alternates between “Berserker” and “Berzerker” depending on the source) character was originally said to be a long-lost Scumdog who came to Earth in 2014 to confront GWAR for making money off of the songs he had written, reflecting Bishop’s original role in the band. The Blothar character was initially a human-looking alien with a helmet, blue fur-accented armor, a bovine udder, and large “Moon Moose” antler-wings. Blothar’s redesign for The Blood of Gods showcased a new pig-like look, with the helmet replaced by his “natural” face. The character kept the antler-wings and the udder concept, now a more monstrous “bag of dicks”, but gained a fleshy, battle-scarred upper body and large horns. His backstory was later retconned to better sync with the established GWAR lore, placing him alongside the band throughout history.
