If there is one band in the Pakistani music circuit that consistently remains rehearsed and determined to stay intact for all of their enhanced productions, it’s none other than the Mekaal Hasan Band.
Over fourteen years into their long, melodious journey, and musical collaborations with various legendary acts from Pakistan as well as internationally, MHB’s approach towards the finesse of their sophisticated sound has never compromised. In what’s being deemed as the first Indo-Pak band comprising members from both sides of the border, the core team: Mekaal and Papu, merged their pool of talent on their last record, ‘Andholan’, released in 2013.
When Mekaal creates magic with the strings, harder each time, the rest of the crew jumps in rhythmic temper with him. The powers are matched and brought in tune by the passionate strain in the vocals by Sharmistha Chatterjee, the echoes of Ahsan Papu’s flute, the unstoppable groove of Sheldon D'Silva on bass and featuring the beautiful jazz infested vibes in Gino Bank’s drumming, making it appear effortless and complex at the same instance with a signature sound that MHB has a copyright on since 2001.
In a specially fabled set, Mekaal Hasan Band, will debut in Coke Studio, Season 8, bringing ample amounts of energy and power, and a sound palette that’s dynamic and allows space to create world-class music by some of the best craftsmen there are.
