About Mc Mell’O’

Michael Henry, better known by his stage name MC Mell'O', is a UK rapper from Battersea south London.

He modelled himself on Grandmaster Melle Mel, calling himself Grandmaster Mellow in tribute, eventually abbreviating it to MC Mell ‘O’.

He is one of the original movers in the Hip-Hop explosion that rocked London in the early 80’s, centered in Covent Garden. He was known then more for his popping skills than rapping ability & went under the tag of Moomin. He was a member of various crews such as The 52 Flash Kru, the SAS (Strawberry all-stars) and Truly Unique. The mid to late 80’s saw his rise to prominence in the global rap & MC'ing fraternity. Mell'O' has toured with many hip hop legends such as Jeru The Damaja, Gang Starr, Cypress Hill, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, KRS-One, N.W.A., Jungle Brothers and many more. His first recording and release was back in 1987/88 alongside sparring partners Monie Love, DJ Pogo & the legendary Sparki under the name of The Jus Badd crew. Mell'O' has subsequently featured & collaborated on tracks with artists such as African Jazz Legend Manu Dibango, Caron Wheeler, Courtney Pine, Urban Species, Gunshot, Mark B, London Electricity and a great many more.
