Max Gowan is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Raleigh, North Carolina, currently based in Washington, D.C. Gowan first gained traction after releasing two albums Big People and Mass Transit, released in 2015 and 2016 respectively, and subsequently attracted a humble Internet following, as well as a local fanbase in his hometown and in D.C. Gowan is known for his layered, multi-tracked acoustic sound, comparable to that of Race-era (Sandy) Alex G, accompanied by soothing, hushed vocals, reminiscent of indie folk singer-songwriters of the mid-to-late-00’s, such as Iron & Wine and Death Cab for Cutie, drawing a clear influence from Elliott Smith as well. Since then, he has released two albums, Far Corners and Bygones, on Slovakian label Z Tapes, and an EP, Exit Line, on Temporary Enjoyment in 2018.
