Matt Sharp was part of Weezer’s original 1992 lineup as bassist. However, he left the band on bad terms in 1998. He played on The Blue Album and Pinkerton.
In 1994, Matt Sharp formed The Rentals, releasing in 1995 the band’s debut, Return Of The Rentals. After breaking up with Weezer, he dedicated himself exclusively to The Rentals, releasing Seven More Minutes in 1999. After a world tour in that same year, the band splitted up, coming back in 2005, releasing 4 EPs before they released Lost In Alphaville, in 2014.
