Matt McGinn was born in Glasgow in 1928 and is recognised as influential in the folk music revival of the 50’s and 60’s.
Performing across the world, famously in Carnegie Hall alongside a young Bob Dylan, he became known for his politically fired leftist voice in his music, as well as his humourist songs focusing around his life and experiences in Glasgow. A staunch communist, republican and trade unionist, he became well known in Glasgow even before his musical fame as a charismatic and skilled debator. McGinn was also a profilitic songwriter, penning many tunes still commonly heard in and around Glasgow and the West of Scotland today.
He passed away in 1977 of smoke inhalation at the age of 48.
