Matthew Francis Holt (May 28, 1977 – April 15, 2017) was an American vocalist best known for his work with American nü metal band Nothingface.
Holt was born on May 28, 1977 in Washington, D.C. and was raised in the suburbs of Gathersburg and Germantown, Maryland.
Holt’s musical career would begin in high school, forming Ingredient 17 with Tommy Sickles and 2 other friends. In 1995, the band was recording a song in Bill Gaal’s recording studio and Holt had managed to catch the attention of Gaal, who was the bassist for Nothingface. Nothingface had recently lost their original vocalist due to creative differences and recruited Holt to become their new vocalist.
Holt would go on to feature on the band’s five studio albums: Nothingface (1995), Pacifier (1996), An Audio Guide to Everyday Atrocity (1998), Violence (2000), and Skeletons (2003).
After Nothingface disbanded in February 2004, Holt would form both Kingdom of Snakes and Perfect Enemy with Gaal before the band’s brief reunion in 2009.
On April 15, 2017, Holt passed away at his home due to an undisclosed degenerative disorder in Frederick, Maryland. Holt was 39 years old at the time of death.
