Matthew James Bellamy (born 9th June 1978) is the lead singer, guitarist, pianist and songwriter of the British rock band Muse.
Matt was born in Cambridge and was raised from the mid ‘80s in Teignmouth, Devon. He started playing piano at the age of 6 and guitar at the age of 11.
Many of Muse’s songs are instantly recognisable due to Bellamy’s vocals, incorporating vibrato, falsetto, and melismatic phrasing. As a guitarist, Bellamy often uses the arpeggiator and pitch-shift effects to create a more “electronic” sound, citing Jimi Hendrix and Tom Morello as influences. His guitar playing is also influenced by Latin and Spanish guitar music and his lyrics often incorporate political and dystopian themes.
