Matata is a Kenyan music boy band/dance group headquartered in Oslo, Norway. The group consists of Richie Mathu, Freddy Milenye (FBI), Ken Kimathi, Marcus Ojiambo, and Festus Mwenda (Fezzo). The group is mainly recognized for their incredible screenplay and dance moves that are mainly exhibited in their Music Videos.
The band made its debut back in 2019 with their first single “Denge,” which earned them a household name in Kenya. With a great audience at hand, they continued making hit after hit with songs such as, “Mare Mare,” “Kata,” & “Chini Chini” ft. Mejja
In an interview with The Sauce, it was revealed that Richie was the genius behind the stage name, which seemed like the greatest option on a table full of other options. The band is also recognized for making extensive use of colloquial dialects in their songs, something they also came to address in the interview:
That was their ode to their Kenyan roots, something they promise they will continue to do, in their quest to fly the Kenyan flag high and represent their motherland.
