About Marty Stuart

American country music singer-songwriter John Martin “Marty” Stuart was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi on September 30, 1958 to John and Hilda Stuart. On July 24, 1970, Marty met country sweetheart Connie Smith for the first time. He was eleven and had attended her concert at an Indian reservation in Mississippi and informed his mother that he was “going to marry her someday.” What prophetic words!

Marty’s first wife was Cindy Cash, daughter of country music legend Johnny Cash. They married on March 31, 1983, when Marty was a guitarist in her father’s band. The marriage lasted about five years, ending in divorce. On July 8, 1997, the 5'7" Stuart actually did what he said he would do when he was 11 years old. He married Connie Smith at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. She is 17 years his senior.

Marty is known for “Burn Me Down”, “Hillbilly Rock”, “Little Things”, and “Tempted”. With Travis Tritt, he is known for “This One’s Gonna Hurt You” and “Honky Tonkin’s What I Do Best”.
