James Martin Hannett, also known as Martin Zero, was an English record producer and an original partner/director at Factory Records with Tony Wilson. He was born on May 31, 1948, and raised in a Catholic household in Manchester. NME has described him as the “architect of the Manchester Sound” because of his work with influential Manchester bands such as Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses and Buzzcocks.
After disputes with Factory Records and struggles with heroin addiction, Hannett passed away from heart failure on April 18, 1991.
