Mark Allen Mothersbaugh is an American singer, songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, author, and visual artist.

Spanning more than 40 years, Mothersbaugh’s music career first came to prominence in the late 1970s as co-founder, lead singer, and keyboardist of the new wave band Devo, which has maintained a cult following ever since.

In addition to his work with Devo, Mothersbaugh has composed soundtracks for television series, films, and video games. In 1996, Mothersbaugh wrote the music for Bottle Rocket, the first feature film from independent filmmaker Wes Anderson. It proved to be the beginning of a fruitful collaboration, with Mothersbaugh scoring Anderson’s critical and commercial successes Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

His lifelong interest in creating multimedia art pieces has resulted in gallery exhibitions, photograph series, postcard diaries, art rugs, sculptures, and musical instruments created from salvaged organ pipes and even bird vocalizations.
